British Airline Pilots Association BALPA News Letter Today. TO ALL RYANAIR PILOTS IN THE UK Dear Colleague Thank you to all of the pilots who have recently attended meetings or have contacted us at BALPA House regarding the recent events in Ryanair. BALPA congratulate the Ryanair pilots on the breath-taking speed of organising a pan-European campaign for unity. In many ways we are not surprised that the vast majority of the pilot community have united in such a way. The Company’s hostility towards unions is well known, so in the absence of such structures, it was inevitable the pilots themselves would form their own collective voice at some point. The ERC structures, for so many years have been used by Ryanair to ‘negotiate deals’ base by base and to segregate natural pilot groups. The use of Brookfield and Storm contract pilots exclude a huge percentage of the pilot group from ERC discussions so the demand for proper contracts of employment is certainly long overdue. BALPA, along with the other Member Associations and the European Cockpit Association support the EERC and their call to negotiate with Ryanair. A letter to all UK ERC reps from BALPA can be found here, the same or similar letters have been sent to ERC’s across Europe. Could you please ensure that this is circulated to as many Ryanair pilots as possible. Unless your ERC reps is a member of BALPA they may not receive this directly. The BALPA National Executive Committee (the elected governing body of BALPA) met today and reaffirmed their support to all Ryanair pilots to exercise their right to organise. BALPA will speak on behalf of the Ryanair pilots in Government, Europe and the media. We will assist Ryanair members in their activity and union membership drive and facilitate meetings and events across the UK bases on request. We have been advised today that a ballot closed in STN. In response to a question ‘do you want a new ERC election’ - 90% of those who voted had voted yes. Despite this, the airline seems set on undermining any real negotiations and yet seems willing to throw money at the problem. What is needed is long term security not short-term fixes. How much value has a one-off cash payment now if the airline refuses to increase your pay, improve benefits, pensions or provide proper contracts for the next 10 years. Ryanair pilots would benefit long-term from a real negotiating structure with proper elected and trained reps. BALPA can support this - if the pilots support it. The company have inadvertently presented the pilot community with an opportunity to demand more than a short-term gain. You have the support of the whole of BALPA including 10,000 UK members and you have public opinion on your side. We support the simple and realistic demands made by the EERC. Proper contracts and a collective voice are not unreasonable. Keep unity and momentum with the EERC campaign and make base by base deals a thing of the past and demand proper contracts and a collective voice. In unity – your BALPA team

Ryanair Cabin Crew Said, Ryanair give cabin crew 50 low quality napkins a day to use during the bar service to passengers on board.One aircraft can do up to 8 flights a day with over 1000 passengers in summer months.Once we finish giving out those napkins we have to resort to using TOILET paper ,which is kept inside the aircraft lavatories.Ryanair sent all cabin crew a memo asking us to use less Toilet paper to save money even though Ryanair made €1.3 Billion profit in 2016. John said, Not only does this show how cheap and cost cutting Ryanair are but the fact that passengers that order food and drinks on board are given toilet paper from public lavatories on board. People received letters like this to scare people. The pourpose of this letter is to avoid people marking items sold in other colleague's names to encourage people fighting for selling and get more commissions on board. This strategy has been used already for 2 years and even colleagues they cheat to take advantage of putting more sold items on the personal devices. It is a clear sign of destruction of team work which is an important factor when working in a aircraft environment by the mood of the cabin crew should not be angry about what you sell or if the colleague has sold more than others. WHY DID RYANAIRDONTCARE CAMPAIGN SET UP A CAMPAIGN OF PROTEST AGAINST EUROPE'S GREATEST EXPLOITERS OF YOUNG CABIN CREW. John Foley ...Ryanair give our Child a fair chance to become Cabin Crew............ My 18 year old daughter Sarah who has always wanted to become cabin crew from a small age. She finished her studies and passed her exams with 3 A levels.I thought she was going to university but one day she informed me and her mun that she had applied to a company called StJames Management (scammer) http://stjames.gb.com/ryanair/ to become cabin crew at Ryanair.A deposit was paid and training took place for 6 weeks in Bishop Stortford..After the 6 week period Sarah had passed all exams and was now a qualified cabin crew...This was a very exiting time for Sarah who at 18 had taken her own decision to start working. We were and still are very proud of Sarah. She was given a contract by Crewlink (scammer 2) http://www.crewlink.ie/ and was based in Dublin.This was very hard for her parents as she was still very young and was moving to Ireland..At first Sarah thought maybe she would be given Liverpool John Lennon as Ryanair were based there and she lived there. (Ryanair try to base young students away from their home easier to scam). Off she went to Dublin working as she thought for Ryanair on their aircraft...After a 7 week period Sarah was called into head office in Dublin with 20 others..They were all Terminated and the reason was The Recession..This was a very hard time for Sarah and she was alone in Dublin by this time and cryed for days..Ryanair refused to give her a flight back home to UK after Termination even though a free flight was given when Sarah started working at Ryanair..Sarah was told by a Ryanair supervisor,;;YOU DO NOT WORK FOR US ANYMORE,so no flight home....An 18 year old Scouse girl had seen through this scam and after being refused a flight home had told Ryanair supervisors never to forget her name ''FOLEY''. how true was these words...) Sarah did not know how to explain what had happened to her .After 5 days she contacted me in Liverpool.I took a ferry to Dublin to pick her up with all her belongings and on the ferry back home Sarah said ,Dad i think i have been scammed. I said, do not be silly a big company like Ryanair don't act in that way (how wrong i was) .Then Sarah told me the day before her Termination a Ryanair supervisor had asked Sarah to resign if she was home sick....After reading her contract a fee of 200 Euro must be paid if you resign..The alarm bells started to ring..... Total family investment for training,accommodation whilst training,apartment deposit in Dublin and last months salary,kept by Ryanair over £5,000....Loosing this Money is not important,what is important is the damage to my child by Ryanair..... As a few weeks went by i found out that Sarah was not alone http://blogs.mirror.co.uk/investigations/2008/09/ryanair-cabin-crew-left-in-tea.html a report a few months before from the Mirror had run a story..Ryanairdontcare Campaign was set up and many other Terminated students contacted me and the same pattern was unfolding...Ryanair had set up some recruitment companies and agents to recruit,train and scam our children.....Crewlink,StJames Management,Dalmac and Cavok are all used to scam young students....... 16th December 2008 was my first move in my protests which are in its 4 year this year.This first protest was as St James Management recruitment day for cabin crew at Stansted Radisson hotel were i went dresses as Santa and gain access to the room were 70 students were getting talked to by Ryanair..Live the high Life and all that Bull.... I started to give students a leaflet of what happened only a few months ago in this very same room to which the staff snatched these leaflets off the students,so i started to shout out all about the scam.Police were called,Ryanair always call the police on me as they want to get rid of me and keep me away from the students so they can continue to scam... I felt so sad whilst i was in this room for two reasons,one my child had be recruited and scammed from this very same room and most of these young students in front of me were being groomed to be scammed. Protests continued through 2009 and 2010 i was charged and found guilty with harassment of a JOHN MUDGE who has StJames Management in his name and he was the start of the scam.... Many letters were sent to the authorities in 2009 and even a personal visit with a Polish student who was scammed.,to Government in London.No one wanted to listen and help other students who were still getting scammed by Ryanair...Roof protests started to high light these issues and let other young people know to stay away from Europe's Greatest Scammers of Young People ''RYANAIR' In 2011 Michael O'Leary had agreed after one year of asking and a protest at his mansion house in Ireland,to meet me which took place April 2011 in Dublin...I told him and his 3 other SCAM helpers at this meeting,how he had abused and scammed my child...Face to Face...O'leary himself expected me to kick off to which he was sadly surprised as i kept carm and direct..Ryanair supervisor and Management put in place reasons for Sarah'sTermination as a direct result of Ryanairdontcare Campaign being formed in 2008 to cover her Termination in 2008.Ryanair scammers say, Sarah had 9 employment issues in 7 weeks of work..Ryanair Supervisors own emails which were passed to me have 4 and 5 issues...Michael O'Leary himself changed the number of issues in correspondences to me also...This shows how deceitful Ryanair are but also shows how they can slip up....I have the paper evidence to which i put twice to the Irish government in 2011,to which i am still waiting for a reply. We say we would do anything if our children were hurt..''TALK the TALK'' ''WALK the WALK i am walking all the way.....I will go 'all the way'' if needed not only for my own daughter but to stop other young students going through what my child went through.....Protests to continue until the Government UK and Ireland look as Recruitment,Employment and Termination at Ryanair...An Independent Investigation is needed and it was needed 3 years ago.....Many more young students lives are wrecked each week by Ryanair for profit....Millions made on exploitation of their crew at Ryanair and it must stop......I call on the public to ask, why are flights sometimes cheap,they exploit young probationary cabin crew,think of this the next time your booking a flight with Ryanair.

What it's REALLY like to work for Ryanair: Staff threatened with punishments if they miss sales targets, work for meagre salaries and pay £300 for their own uniforms Mirror investigation uncovers the astonishing details of the tactics it uses to squeeze more from not only its passengers but its staff too. It likes to be called the ‘world’s favourite airline’ but now thanks to unprecedented cancellations, not forgetting its notorious hidden costs, Ryanair has taken the phrase ‘no frills’ to unprecedented heights. Yesterday we revealed how hundreds of disillusioned crew are seeking new jobs with rival airlines - no longer able to put up with the poor pay and conditions. Now an investigation by the Daily Mirror can expose the astonishing details of the tactics the company uses to squeeze more pounds and euros not only from its no-frills passengers but its staff too. From cabin crew threatened with punishments if sales targets on board are not met, pilots under pressure to fly when sick or lose pay and toilet planes only cleaned after EIGHT flights, here Ryanair staff reveal what it is really like to work for Europe’s most infamous budget airline. AND you thought it was just the passengers... Cabin crew Cabin crew are forced to use pushy sales techniques on flights to meet targets - or face disciplinary action. Staff are threatened with punishments, such as being moved to different bases if targets are not met, which the company has turned into an incentive to boost meagre salaries. A Ryanair cabin crew member said: “We have targets to reach every day, which include duty free, scratch cards and food. At the end of duty, if we didn’t sell enough, we have to explain the reasons to our supervisor. “When you are bottom of the monthly sales chart you receive a letter asking you to improve your performance or they will reconsider your position. “Cabin staff are always afraid they will be demoted. Fatigue and stress gives way to rudeness, arrogance and as consequence, conflict.” In a recent memo seen by the Mirror, all crew were ordered they “must sell everyday: one perfume, one meal deal and one item of fresh food and eight scratch cards per crew member.” It warned “the above sales will be closely monitored” and those “not reaching their targets daily will be met with by their supervisor and further action taken.” Another memo to staff based in Barcelona - ranked bottom for on board sales - threatened to move “crew members who were consistently under performing”. The hard-nosed sales tactics are also laid out in a 46-page guide to working at the airline. It sets out how cabin crew “drive Ryanair’s on board sales” to boost “their monthly sales bonus” but also “as it’s an important revenue stream for the company.” It reads: “Sales bonus is calculated on a flight-by-flight basis which is calculated as 10% of on board sales.” But it later explains how disciplinary procedures will occur for “poor on board sales performance.” Hostesses face disciplinary action if they don't meet their sale targets (Image: Alamy)READ MOREHen do 'ruined' after Ryanair cancels flight for bride-to-be and 21 friendsPay and conditions As many as 50 per cent of the airline's pilots and cabin crew staff are employed via agencies on zero-hour contracts. Flight crew must also pay £300 for their own uniform and that’s after many have paid nearly £2,000 for a six-week training course and accommodation in Germany - rising to £30,000 for pilots. A pilot explained: “The starting salary is very low in comparison to other airlines and is topped up by pay for flying hours. “This is a safety issue because if you are a captain or a first officer self-employed or on a zero hours contract, it encourages you to go work when you are ill as you need to get paid. “Nothing is free. We pay for our own uniforms and have to bring our own food and water on flights. You could be stuck on a plane for hours without access to anything. At rival airlines it is a different story. A Virgin Atlantic pilot who joined from Flybe told us: “We only contracted to work 750 hours a year in comparison to 900 [check] at Ryanair so if overtime is needed, we are in a position to do it. “We get free car parking, uniform, private healthcare and pension. We also have a crew cart on board with drinks and meals, as much water as we like and anything leftover from the passenger carts. Although the salary was lower at Flybe, we still got all the basics.” Cancellations Last week 20,000 Ryanair passengers had their flights cancelled due to a strike by French air-traffic controllers, including bride-to-be Leanne Wall, 34, from Liverpool, jetting of with 21 mates for her hen do in Ibiza. Although the flights were axed after controllers walked out in a protest over new labour laws, a Ryanair insider claims the airline will use the scenario to cover-up technical problems to avoid paying out thousands of pounds to passengers in compensation for a cancelled flight - something Easyjet was also accused of last month. The pilot told us: “The French strike was very convenient. Yes, French air space was closed but flights were cancelled from Athens to Rome for example which goes nowhere near there. “They blame it on the weather or say ‘reasons beyond out of our control’. Pilots Being a pilot used to be a glamorous and well paid career but not if you working for Ryanair. According to the crew who’ve broken rank to speak to us this is far from truth. “Don’t wash your dirty linen in public” is the motto we are supposed to obey but after they way we have all been treated, enough is enough,” a British pilot who has flown with the airline for six years said. “We’ve been offered £12,000 extra to work help dissolve the cancellation chaos but the truth of is most of us can’t or won’t take it. The good will has dried up. “140 pilots joined Norwegian Air last year and EasyJet are recruiting from Ryanair too. Their contracts are much better. “It is not uncommon to carry out 12 hours of duty but only have flown for six hours. But you are only paid for the time in the air. “If you are on a basic salary you rely on the flight hours on top which pay an average £40 a hour. “This might sound generous but most have had to fork out £30,000 to the firm to start with and there are no perks. Easyjet pays £20,000 a year more for a captain.” Hygiene Pilots too say that their control decks are not cleaned regularly In May the Irish firm announced an annual profit of £1.1bn after flying 11.8 million passengers on over 600,000 flights. And here again another MEMO, As usual, only talking about sales, disregarding safety at all times. This memo focuses the role of a cabin crew (which is mainly for safety and security) to a seller. Specially during boarding, cabin crew should be aware of any sign that could cause an emergency and make the cabin safe to take off. Cabin crew are not meant to be taking orders of what passengers will eat or drink as this is a duty that should be done during cruise. Hourly rate of pay claimed by these agencies for pilots salary from Ryanair have a 50% shortfall, earning Ryanair's senior board members multi €millions each month. The very same hourly rate of pay and 50% shortfall claimed by cabin crew agencies for cabin crew salary is profitable in the very same manner.Ryanair introduce VPOS paying system last year which tracks on board sales of each cabin crew on each flight.What Ryanair have been doing is chipping at the 10% commission earned by cabin crew and keeping it for themselves.Ryanair cabin crew have informed Ryanairdontcare Campaign the money stolen from cabin crew each month ranges from €20 to €50.There are 6000 cabin crew at Ryanair making €millions each year through stealing.Many cabin crew keep their own account on their sales but never get a % sales breakdown from Ryanair.They are scared to complain through fear of Termination and Irish contracts protect that fear. The ruling by the European Court of Justice regarding cabin crew disputes relating to their Irish employment contracts,now they have the option of bringing proceedings before the courts of the place where they perform the essential part of their cabin crew duties and not Dublin.The vast majority of terminated cabin crew are young and a trip to Dublin to fight these wrongful terminations can be expensive and a daunting task.Ryanair will have no choice but to fight cabin crew terminations in every country it has cabin crew, which is great news and WILL reduce wrongful termination (Recruitment for Termination ).
